Frequently asked questions about our courses
How do the courses work?
Course are self-paced. Each course varies in length and can be started and stopped at the convenience of the participant. Upon completion of a course, a pass/fail multiple-choice test is provided. Participants must complete all the materials in that course to take the exam. To take get final course certificate you must complete all modules and pass the exam. A certificate, for the requisite hours of tested training, is granted upon completion of all of the modules in the course and passing of the exam.
How do I navigate inside a course?
Each of the courses are broken up into individual modules or “lectures”. The chapters can be taken in order, but the program allows participants to move in and out of topics as necessary. That being said, it is recommended that participants take the modules in order.
How long do I have to finish the course?
You have six months to complete the course. Should you be unable to complete the course in six months, no certificate will be issued and access to it will be terminated. Participants would then have to re-register and start from the first module should they want to complete the course. In this instance, no credit will be provided for previously completed modules under the original registration.
Are the tests scored or are they pass/fail?
Tests are recorded as either “pass” or “fail” and no score will be provided. A passing score is 70%.
Are tests “open book”?
Tests should be taken individually and in accordance with your organization’s integrity standards expected of fire investigation professionals.
What happens if I fail a test?
Should you fail a test after taking a course, a second opportunity will be given to retake the test. Should you fail the second test, you will have to restart the course.
