FireCred's 1033 Course is a 40-hour tested course, presented in 24 modules, and is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the NFPA 1033 fire science and investigation knowledge mandates presented in its Annex D. This course can be used to maintain a current level of requisite knowledge, meet annual training requirements, provide baseline training for new fire investigators, meet eligibility requirements for challenging certification programs, and to help investigators prepare for courtroom or deposition testimony.
The course is designed to address and explain each of the topics listed in Annex D. Each FireCred 1033 Course module identifies the specific section of Annex D which it is explaining. The course is not a standalone basic fire investigation course, nor is it a substitute for more detailed and rigorous technical training on specific topics such as safety, fire dynamics, etc.
Taking the Course
The course is a self-paced, multiple-module presentation. Each module varies in length and can be started and stopped at the convenience of the participant. Upon completion of a module, a pass/fail multiple-choice test is provided. Participants must complete all the materials in that module to take the exam. To take get final course certificate you must complete all modules and pass each module exam to proceed to the next module.
A single certificate, for 40 hours of tested training, is granted upon completion of all of the modules and passing all of the tests.
Navigation In the Course
Each of the 24 modules is broken up into individual chapters or “lectures”. The chapters can be taken in order, but the program allows participants to move in and out of topics as necessary. That being said, it is recommended that participants take the modules in order.
